SPECIAL NOTE ON NEW APPLICATION CYCLE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

June 29, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to afflict countries across Latin America, provoking tragic loss of life and serious economic and social consequences. Our grantees and partners in the region have demonstrated commitment and creativity in adjusting their work to meet this situation. However, the challenges and uncertainties remain significant.

As a foundation focused on development in Latin America, we want to ensure our resources meet the greatest needs of this moment and reflect the realities faced by the organizations we support.

Education program

For our Education grantmaking, we are introducing a special initiative, Ensuring Educational Equity during the COVID-19 Pandemic, that will temporarily replace our education program strategy for this grantmaking cycle. This initiative will be the focus of all Education grants made in the remainder of 2020. Please see here for further information, including application instructions.

Democratic Governance and Sustainable Resource Management programs

For our Democratic Governance and Sustainable Resource Management programs, we will consider projects aligned with our program priorities with the following special considerations for this cycle:

  • In addition to our general program priorities, we welcome projects that directly address the impact of COVID-19 on our programmatic areas. Such projects might respond to specific challenges related to access to justice or protecting ecological conservation gains during the pandemic.
  • Applicants should briefly address in the letter of inquiry executive summary how the project will be implemented and confirm its viability under current conditions.
  • Proposed projects should not exceed 18 months.

Tinker’s general grantmaking policies and guidelines will continue to apply for this cycle.

The deadlines for letters of inquiry are as follows:
