Alexandre Street

Alexandre Street holds an M.Sc. and a D.Sc. (PhD) in electrical engineering (emphasis in operations research) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From 2003 to 2007, he participated in several consulting projects related to strategic bidding in the Brazilian energy auctions and market regulation at the Power System Research Consulting (PSR), Rio de Janeiro. From August 2006 to March 2007, he was a visiting researcher at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real, Spain. At the beginning of 2008, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at PUC-Rio, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He teaches energy economics for graduate students and optimization and statistics for both graduate and undergraduate students. He founded the Laboratory of Applied Mathematical Programming and Statistics (LAMPS) at PUC-Rio; the Renewable Storage and Flexibility Research Group for Power Systems Sustainability; and Lamps Co, an energy-tech startup incubated at PUC-Rio. His main goal as a professor and researcher is to promote a vibrant environment at PUC-Rio where teaching, research, and development converge towards innovation, enhancing student experiences and actively involving them in solving problems of society. Alexandre Street is a senior member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society and a CNPq and FAPERJ research fellow. Since 2004, he has been playing a relevant role in the ongoing restructuring of the Brazilian power system, with significant contributions to market design and sectoral governance and reforms. He has been serving as a member of the Brazilian power system planner advisory board and as an associate editor for relevant scientific journals such as IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and, more recently, IEEE Transactions on Energy Markets, Policy, and Regulation. He is the recipient of prestigious paper awards from leading professional societies, including IEEE and INFORMS.
