Sergio Ugalde Quintana

Sergio Ugalde Quintana is a Professor at the Center for Linguistic and Literary Studies at El Colegio de México. His research and teaching interests are 20th-century Latin American essays and poetry from the perspective of intellectual history. He holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic literature from El Colegio de México and a Habilitation in Romance literature and languages from the University of Potsdam, Germany. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Brazil). From 2007 to 2019, he was Professor of Latin American Literature at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México where he was also the director of the School of Latin American Studies for three years.

He has been a fellow in Germany thanks to funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Humboldt Stiftung. He is a member of Mexico's National System of Researchers and has edited 11 books. He is the author of La poética del cimarrón (Aimé Césaire y la literatura del Caribe francés) (2007), La biblioteca en la isla. Una lectura de La expresión americana de José Lezama Lima (2011), and Filología, creación y vida: Alfonso Reyes y los estudios literarios (2024).
