Daniel Escotto

Daniel Escotto holds a master’s in arts and architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. He has been a professor in the Department of the Theory and History of Architecture at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México’s (UNAM) School of Architecture for the last 21 years and has taught studio and urban design at Monterrey Tech for 10 years. His research interests include 20th-century architectural heritage and the effects of the modern European diaspora on Latin American arts and architecture.

Professor Escotto also has expertise in implementing projects and policies in urban public spaces and their relationship to politics and civic culture. He assembled the inscription dossier for UNAM’s Central University City Campus as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO 2007) and is a former Public Space Expert for Mexico City (2008–2012). He is also the founder and director of the post-graduate in Public Space and Urban Mobility program at UNAM. From 2018 to 2020, he was the project leader for Mexico’s nationwide government program, SEDATU-PMU, to improve public spaces and infrastructure. He leads the Special Projects Office at UNAM’s School of Architecture and frequently lectures, writes, and publishes books and articles on arts, architecture, and urban culture.
