Through this project, Asistencia Legal por los Derechos Humanos, A.C. (ASILEGAL) seeks to advance the implementation of Mexico’s criminal justice system at the state level, working with justice system operators and civil society actors. In an initial phase, ASILEGAL will use a combination of desk research, interviews, and workshops to develop an up-to-date assessment of the state justice system, with a focus on legal, structural, and organizational-cultural barriers. The organization will then convene interinstitutional tables (mesas de co-creación) to develop a shared understanding of key challenges and propose potential solutions. ASILEGAL will use these recommendations to develop courses, workshops, documentation, and other resources.
