This project responds to and builds on progress that Mexico has begun to make in addressing the specific needs of thousands of children and adolescents who are victims of crime each year or are otherwise obligated to engage with the justice system. Over decades, Oficina de Defensoría de los Derechos de la Infancia, A.C. (ODI) has shown through its research that judicial procedures built for adult witnesses and crime victims are poorly suited to the cognitive developmental and psychological realities of children. ODI will work with state justice systems in ten states that have expressed interest in adapting their approaches to better reflect best practices, including lessons learned from successful changes in the state of Chihuahua.
