FFI has been working with the fishing sector in Honduras’ Atlántida Department to develop an integrated fisheries management approach that conserves marine biodiversity and supports small-scale fisher livelihoods. The Seascape Partnership includes fishing communities, the three Marine Protected Areas co-managers, and two local NGOs with expertise in community-based environmental protection and livelihoods. Following the dual crises of COVID-19 and back-to-back hurricanes, fishing communities struggled to revive the economic viability of their fisheries and sustain their ecological vitality. This scope of work will spur SSF access to and integration in markets that are built on and incentivize responsible fisheries and improve fisheries management across multiple scales.
