In 2021, Brazil introduced a national policy for PES. Its goal is to promote better management of water and land resources and address issues of equity and poverty in communities managing these resources under collective land tenure arrangements. In this context, IEA will provide technical support to communal landholders on the legal and scientific components of PES. It will also produce technical reports on current PES practices assessing common PES project hurdles as well as the adequacy and enforcement of the existing legal framework. Finally, IEA will develop a project template that communities can adapt to their local conditions and offers recommendations about how to determine appropriate incentives in the agreements.
