The Laboratory’s Aprender a Estudar Textos (AET) program is designed to close literacy gaps in upper elementary grades by providing in-depth professional support to teachers. AET equips teachers with an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of literacy and practical teaching techniques. It supports teachers to more effectively use the programs of study selected and validated by educational authorities. After years of research and design and one cycle of school-based testing, the Laboratory will conduct a quasi-experimental study of AET in two municipal school districts in greater São Paulo, taking into account the pedagogical and logistical challenges of the pandemic.
