Mexico has a strong community forestry sector that has proven to be effective in conserving natural forests and contributing to local development. However, community forest enterprise success has been hampered by undifferentiated management structures and business lines; the lack of organizational, governance, and management structures; and limited knowledge of advanced financial planning and business modeling. Rainforest Alliance will initiate efforts to develop an inter-ejido business innovation platform servicing a network of at least 25 ejidos in Quintana Roo and Campeche and impacting over 650,000 hectares. The platform will offer technical, capacity-building, and advisory support to the ejidos to advance the separation and strengthening of business and communal governance structures. The project aims to accelerate inter-ejido value chain integration and facilitate the market viability of their maturing enterprises.
