Igarapé will address key barriers to successful detection and persecution of environmental crime in the Amazon, which has important human and ecological consequences. The project features three mutually reinforcing streams of work: 1) enhancing the capacity of Brazilian prosecutors to pursue environmental crime, 2) convening justice system actors from Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, and 3) conducting research that generates new insights into patterns of criminality for use by these actors and other stakeholders. Each stream of work will generate findings to be made available to the public through research reports, op-eds, and other media.
