In response to the pandemic, Associação Nova Escola has developed a comprehensive initiative, Trilhas do Amanhã (“Tomorrow’s Tracks”), that offers various tools and resources on hybrid education for the 2021 school year. Nova Escola will use this Tinker grant to target high schools in north and northeastern Brazil that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Nova Escola will create high-quality, attractive training courses that improve teachers’ ability to engage their students, understand how to prioritize various components of the National Common Curriculum, assess student learning, and plan flexible lessons. This includes the development of three live courses for broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, and the television channel “TV Escola.” Following the live shows, the courses will be edited and designed as self-instructional modules available on Nova Escola’s virtual platform. In the short term, the project will reach 80,000 of Brazil’s 510,000 high school teachers, and in the medium term, Nova Escola expects to reach 200,000 teachers, or 30% of all high school teachers.
