While Uruguay’s education system was better suited than most countries in the region to adapt to the pandemic, its teachers reported “great difficulty” in implementing the distance education curricula due to lack of training on virtual platforms. Project partners will train 500 teachers, principals, and government education officials in the use of digital platforms, blended learning, student assessment, and differentiated approaches to teaching, among other skills. The training was designed by education specialists from the NGO Acción Empresarial por la Educación (EDUCA) and the Universidad Católica de Uruguay (UCU) based on a model first tested in the Dominican Republic in early 2020.
