Besides serving as chairman of COMEXI, Luis is also chairman of Mexico Evalúa-CIDAC, an independent research institution devoted to the study of economic and political policy issues. He is a prolific writer on domestic and international political and economic subjects and has won numerous awards, including the APRA book award (1985), the Dag Hammarskjöld award (1993), and the National Journalism Award (1998) for op-ed pieces. He is a contributing editor of La Reforma, and his analyses and opinion pieces appear in major news outlets in Mexico, the U.S., and Europe, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, the Financial Times, and the International New York Times. He is a frequent speaker at major international conferences.

Luis serves on the boards of several hedge funds and has served on the board of directors of The Human Rights Commission of the Federal District and is a member of the Trilateral Commission. He is author and editor of 50 books, among them Mexico’s Dilemma: The Political Origins of Economic Crisis; Political Reform: Necessary Component of Modernity; Sovereignty and Free Trade; and Mexico: The Riddle of Legitimacy. He holds a diploma in Financial Management, an MMBA, and received his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Brandeis University.
